Valerian root is used for a wide number of ailments, but the one it is most known for is insomnia treatment. Valerian root is a calming herb that helps the mind and body to relax. 
Apigenin, one of the most abundant compounds isolated from chamomile, is believed to promote anxiolytic and muscle-relaxing effects due to its connection to benzodiazepine.2 Beyond apigenin exist other similar compounds in chamomile extracts capable of binding to benzodiazepine and GABA receptors, which may contribute to its competence as a sedative.
Research from 2017 in mice suggests that passionflower can have a positive effect on sleep patterns. In fact, one study in rats even found that passionflower significantly increased slow-wave (deep) sleep, reduced rapid eye movement sleep, and helped the rats fall asleep more quickly.
