What is CBD?
CBD stands for cannabidiol which is one of the 113 known cannabinoids found in the hemp and cannabis plant. CBD interacts with the endocannabinoid system and has many know health benefits for people and for our furry little friends.
Will CBD get my pet high??
Much different from the much talked about THC, CBD is not psychoactive and will not get your pet high. CBD also has no known toxicity level; this means there is no way for an overdose.
Most of the scientific studies done with hemp and cannabis in animals have been conducted in labs on rats. What we do know for sure is that all mammals have an endocannabinoid system and this system is involved in managing a large variety of functions that include immune system function, memory, sleep, and many more.
What are the benefits of my pet take hemp derived CBD?
- Pain Management:
Studies have shown that the endocannabinoid system plays a major role in pain. This is mainly due to the anti-inflammation effects of CBD that we will touch on shortly.
- Stress and Anxiety Reduction:
CBD may help reduce stress and anxiety in our furry friends. Very similar to humans, all animals also suffer from stress and anxiety. Everyone has seen the dog with the crazy separation anxiety, or perhaps the cat that urinates every time it rides in the car to the vet. Or who has had their dog freak out every time they see the mailman? It is very possible this pet has some anxiety or stress. Research suggests that CBD can boost serotonin which in return lowers levels of stress and anxiety.
This is going to play hand in hand with the pain relief, stress and anxiety reducing. The less inflammation our bodies have the less pain we feel and the better we feel the less stress and anxiety we have.
This topic is safe to say is one of the most talked about benefits of CBD. CBD is widely known to help control seizures, muscle spasms, and tremors.
- Could potentially slow tumor growth:
Cancer and tumors are a very common problem with pets and have a very high fatality rate. We have all heard or experienced the many unwanted side effects of chemotherapy and those effects are the same in humans and animals. CBD can potentially aid in slowing the growth and spread of cancer and even reducing the size of tumors.
An antiemetic helps stop or prevent nausea and vomiting. I believe it’s safe to say no one (including our pets) enjoys them. CBD can be a much safer alternative to some of the common medications that are known to cause side effects from Diarrhea and lethargy, hypotension and extreme drowsiness.
- Maintains Homeostasis:
Homeostasis means balance and balance in the body means low stress, low inflammation, good energy and just overall feeling good. All of our pets bodily functions are working great in homeostasis!
So… Should you give your pets CBD?
That’s for you to decide but the potential health benefits with lack of negative side effects make CBD a very safe natural alternative our pets take and in my opinion why not help these furry little friends have the highest quality of life possible.
