3 Daily Tools For Happiness

“HAPPINESS comes from within. To be happy is to know oneself. It’s not in the material things that we own, it’s the love we have and show to the world.”

-Angie karan

Happiness is not a destination. It is the state of being in Joy. We can not find happiness (or more appropriate Joy) outside of ourselves because it begins within us. That next car or house or job or significant other isn’t going to bring about happiness if we don’t first uncover it within ourselves. So today we’re talking about 3 daily tools to help you uncover the joy that already lives inside your heart.

You may be asking, do I really need to do these daily? That seems like a lot. And the answer is a resounding….

Why? Because in order to make profound change in our lives what we do daily has the biggest effect. What we do daily is who we are. So, without further ado, three amazing tools that helped transform my life and the lives of many extraordinary people!

I put this number one for a reason. Why do I need to meditate to achieve happiness? Well, our mind is a very powerful tool, but it is exactly that – a tool. And if we don’t take the time to learn how to master it, it begins using us instead of us using it. When we meditate its not just about sitting still. It is about the impact it has on our life. When we meditate it not only allows us to think more clearly, but it also allows us to discern between all the chatter that is not benefiting us (the negative self talk, scarcity thinking, etc) and what we can use to add to our lives. This is why it is so important to do daily. When we are unable to sit with our thoughts it becomes impossible to be content – which many masters believe to be the ultimate state of joy.

Yes, mediation can seem extremely daunting at first. How do I get my brain to go from a zillion thoughts to silent? Well i’ll let you in on a little secret – you’re not! What? Crazy I know, but a better way to look at it and to practice is to get the mind (which is BUILT to move from one thought to the next) to focus on something that is going to have a positive effect on your way of thinking. Remember, it can be 3 minutes of your day to start! 3 minutes is way better than no minutes!

Well, what kind of things should we focus on?

There are lots of ways to do this, but the simplest way is to put your awareness on your breath. There are a zillion ways to do this but one of the simplest way is to:

Close Your Eyes.

Take 3 deep breaths in your nose and out your nose. Then, release control of your breath and just start to observe as the air moves in and out.

Bring your awareness to the tip of the nose, and feel the cooling of the breath as it goes in the nose, and the warmth as the breath moves out. Do this for 5 breaths.

Then focus your awareness to the right nostril. Feel once again the cooling, but only in the right nostril, when the air goes in, and the warmth as the air moves out. Do this for 10 breaths.

Then repeat this on the left side for 10 breaths.

Lastly observe once again the cooling and warming sensation of the breath through both nostrils for 10 breaths.

And That’s it! Now, I understand some people learn better by listening than reading and that is where guided meditations come in! When you first start meditating the best meditations to begin on are breath awareness, present awareness and mindfulness. I personally love the app insight timer for meditating. It is free and you can do guided or just set a timer! Check it out HERE!

When we don’t have anything to get out of bed for it makes it hard to wake up. This is why doing something you love everyday is so important! Don’t know what you love? Try it all!

There is something out there for everyone, and in this day and age there is even more options than there ever used to be! Check out one reason why doing something you’re passionate about is so good for you!

Passion gives you a purpose in life

Amy enthuses: “It’s easy to get passionate about our jobs at CarVi, every member of the team is driven by the goal of saving lives. It makes us want to come to work every morning.” Having a passion gives us a purpose in life. And having a purpose leads to fulfillment and happiness, which is subsequently good for our health. Many scientific studies have found a connection between happiness and good health.

People with an optimistic mindset are more likely to engage in healthy behaviors, such as exercising and eating right. Lower blood pressure and a healthier BMI have been associated with improved well-being on many occasions. You’ve probably already heard that happiness releases endorphins, in the same way exercise does. But having something to get excited about in the morning sets those natural neurochemicals coursing through your body, reducing pain, minimizing discomfort, and making you feel healthier.

Exercise! Yes, when we’re talking about being in a state of joy exercise is so important! This study with 3048 participant shows that exercising 2 to 3 times a week has a significant decrease in depression, anger, cynical distrust and stress than those who exercised less or not at all.

So even if its 10 minutes a day, we gotta move our bodies! Maybe its zumba, hot yoga, weightlifting, hiking, climbing, whatever! Just get that body going, and that sweat happening.

If you’re looking to get even more benefit do some activity outside! Get that vitamin D. A lot of us are depleted in Vitamin D either from not going outside or putting on so much sunscreen when we do we don’t actually absorb any. Vitamin D is great to boost our mood and decrease anxiety.

3 Tools! Of course there’s lots of ways to achieve a state of joy and bliss, these are just the 3 ways that I think are the most important for starting off. Implement these and it won’t be long before you start to see a change.
